From Lab to Lager: Carlsberg Research Lab's Journey of Innovation with SensiMate

Carlsberg, a major Danish company and global beer industry leader, founded Carlsberg Research Lab (CRL) to explore beer chemistry and organism physiology. Now a top brewing research lab, it drives innovations with a pioneering spirit for future breakthroughs.
SensiMate owes its existence to the Carlsberg Research Lab’s (CRL) dedication to discovering innovative methods of grasping consumer preferences and tastes. From our inception, CRL has been our inaugural client, engaging us to conduct a variety of tests tailored to their needs.
Our first event for them took place amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing unprecedented challenges, our flexible approach allowed the gathering of consumer feedback in a real-life setting, which later facilitated the successful development and foreign market introduction of one of Carlsberg’s prototypes.
By harnessing simple yet powerful feedback questions we were able to bridge the gap between Carlsberg’s innovative brews and consumer expectations, highlighting the pivotal role of direct consumer insight in steering product development and commercial success.
Further demonstrating our impactful collaboration, we took some of their new ideas for a spin at big events like the Roskilde music festival and over at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU).
These spots were perfect for getting real, hands-on feedback that Carlsberg needed to fine-tune their cool projects and make sure they were on the right track.
Despite Carlsberg’s vast resources for research and development, they really see the value in our quick and effective ways of testing stuff out and how we get up close and personal with the everyday consumer who is actually going to use their products. In their own words “It has been a pleasure working with Sensimate, their digital survey tool is very effective and has provided us with good insights for our R&D activities.”
This kind of real-world feedback is gold, helping small to big companies sharpen their innovations and make sure they’re crafting something that is going to be a hit.
